Google Meet for Choir Begins on Mon, 11/16

Starting this week, All Choir classes will move to GOOGLE MEET. The link for their google meet will be visible on the dashboard of their google classrooms

We highly encourage our students to turn on their cameras.  With everyone’s cameras on, Google Meet will allow

  • the students to see each other as they sing and
  • Mrs. Gigliotti to see students posture, embouchure and engage the physical aspects of their singing, which are critical to learning how to develop technique.

This past week, we started using a platform, “SoundTrap” to record and play back our voices, and the SoundTrap Studio is now our ‘Rehearsal Room.’

  • It works best with plug in headphones (reduced latency/delay.)
  • If you need support in purchasing a pair, please let Mrs. Gigliotti know

Winter Virtual Concert in December

Mark your calendars for Wed, December 16 at 7 PM. We will have our Winter Concert that evening with 7 virtual choir releases by our chorus students.

  • Students will be doing virtual choir video recordings in the weeks ahead.
  • Please note this is part of their quarterly grade, and the final product is their exam or concert grade.
  • Gigliotti is working on step by steps video guides for students to follow in making their recordings.

Chorus Family Trivia Game Night – this Fri, 11/20 at 7:30 pm

Join the fun to socialize with other chorus families and help raise money to support our program.

  • $25 per family (any size team may play.)

T-shirt & “Swag Bag” Pick-up – this Sat, 11/21

PCA is sponsoring Swag Bags for each Chorus Student.  Each bag will contain their new Chorus T-shirt, and some special treats for them and will be free to our Choir students. 

Please sign up for a pickup slot for Saturday, Nov 21 between 1-2:30 to let the process run smoothly: Chorus Goody Bag Pick-up

If you cannot come by on 11/21, please text Susan Sather at 571-276-7789 to arrange a date/time range to pick up your student’s bag any day/time after 11/21 at 4pm from Susan Sather’s home.

Parent Volunteers

A Special Thanks to our Parents for Choral Arts Board members: Susan Sather, Eric Johnson, Heather Smith, Ray van Hilst, Stephanie Hando, & Amy Guerber as well as to Cyndy Norford, Kaiti Parish and Juliana Carter.

These parents have been putting in many hours getting this year started with Back to Chorus Night, Swag Bags, Choir T-shirts, and Broadway Night.

Please consider getting involved to support the open volunteer positions that need filled this year:

  • Social Media Manager (post on our SM weekly)
  • Grant Writer: Assist with writing requests for funding from various sources
  • Friends & Family Letter Campaign: Guide students through campaign to write to their friends and family requesting donations, through email and snail mail, in Nov/Dec.
  • Restaurant Night Coordinator: Contact local restaurants to set up dates for fundraising where we get a portion of sales for specific nights.

It really does take a village to keep the program running.  So, when we work together, we are able to bring amazing opportunities to our kids.  And we have a very unique choral program at South Lakes that is based in music & community.

    • All students should be receiving text messages for their group numbers from their HS Musical directors and can receive information about scheduling and access to music/links on the Google classroom.
      • If you are in a number and have not been added to a group chat of some kind, please reach out to your HS musical director.
    • The rehearsal google meet link is their Broadway Night google classroom link.

NOTE: If students are having technical issues during a rehearsal, consider logging out and rebooting your machine.

    • Send 1 copy to the School (Required for ALL SLHS Students)
    • Scan/Email 1 copy to mosprague@fcps.edu (Required for ALL Chorus Students for Chorus Dept. Use)

Consent to Share/Free-Reduced Lunch Application:

    • For students receiving Free/Reduced Fee Lunch
    • Complete/Print/Sign and Send it to the School

Opt-Out Form: The 2020-2021 Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms

  • This will be important to our virtual performances since they will be shared on the web
  • All SLHS students & their parents/guardians should review the Information Booklet
    • Scroll down to the 9-12 Forms Section.
      • The information booklet and Opt-Out Forms are available in 8 different languages.
    • Read the booklet.
    • If you object to your child’s participation in any or all of the activities listed,
      • Complete/Print/Sign and Return the appropriate Opt-Out Form(s) to the School.
